The Second Conference on Legal Aid Law

Bayt al-Hikma Participates in the Second Conference on the Legal Aid Law
Under the guidance of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Qahtan Neama Hassan Al-Khafaji, Bayt al-Hikma – Department of Legal Affairs / Human Rights Division – participated in the Second Conference on the Legal Aid Law, organized by the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights in cooperation with the International Rescue Committee (IRC). The event took place on Monday, October 6, 2025, with the participation of several Members of Parliament, representatives of government institutions – particularly those concerned with human rights in ministries and independent bodies – as well as a number of legal experts and civil society activists.
The conference shed light on the Legal Aid Law No. (7) of 2024, enacted by the Iraqi Parliament, and the establishment of the Legal Aid Center within the Commission. The law represents a noble humanitarian initiative aimed at safeguarding citizens’ rights and providing legal counsel and assistance to individuals who lack the financial means to pursue their legal entitlements.
Bayt al-Hikma was represented at the conference by Mrs. Ibtisam Khazaal Matar, Director of the Human Rights Division.
Bayt al-Hikma is keen to participate in conferences and events organized by governmental institutions, universities, and research centers, viewing these engagements as valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge and foster new avenues for academic, research, and cultural collaboration.
