About Bayt Al-Hikma


Bayt Al-Hikma is an intellectual and scientific establishment with financial and administrative independence. It deals with researches and studies. Bayt Al-Hikma was re-established in 1995 under the law (No.11 in 1995), to reviving the role of "Abbasian bayt al- hikma" or as it known at that time "wisdom closet" which was founded in Baghdad (754-775)A.C. in the era of Abbasian caliphate (Abo Jaffer Al-Mansour).
The "wisdom closet" considered, at that time, as the First Library in the Islamic world, deals with collecting books, foreign works and precious manuscripts to attract the scientists and encourage them to authoring and translation. Then Bayt Al- Hikma was developed during the reign of caliph Al- Ma'mun (813-833) A.C to became a scientific establishment works to upgrading researches and studies and to preparation of scientists. It was an academy contain a places for studying, discussing, translate and authoring, as well as it contain a huge library besides an observatory. It considered then The First Scientific University in the whole world.
The scholars were going to baghdad from around the world to study and learn and to see the precious manuscripts, and their travelling to Baghdad was an opportunity to meet and discuss with scientists.
Bayt Al- Hikma consists of (8) eight scientific departments work to achieve the aims of this establishment. Every single department consists of a search units determine their functions and mission  by a decision from A Board of Trustees, and each department has a consult committee nominate by its administrator.

Scientific departments of Bayt Al-Hikma:
1-    Political and Strategy studies.
2-    Religions studies.
3-    Historical studies.
4-    Philosophic studies.
5-    Law studies.
6-    Economic studies.
7-    Social studies.
8-    Linguistics and Translation studies.
