10-05-2026

First meeting of the Women's Cultural Forum

First Meeting of the Women's Cultural Forum at Bayt al-Hikma
Under the supervision of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bayt al-Hikma, Dr. Qahtan Ni'ma Hassan al-Khafaji, the first session of the Women's Cultural Forum was held at Bayt al-Hikma on Saturday, May 9, 2026. The session was chaired by Judge Taghreed Abdul Majeed Nasser, Vice President of the Rusafa Court of Appeals and President of the Iraqi Women Judges Association, in the presence of several forum members.
The formation of this forum follows the approval of the Prime Minister to establish the Women's Cultural Forum at Bayt al-Hikma. It aims to enhance women’s cultural and intellectual movements and open horizons for dialogue and cooperation among academic, legal, and cultural elites.
During the meeting, several organizational themes related to the forum’s workflow were discussed, alongside a draft of the internal bylaws. Emphasis was placed on addressing issues that contribute to supporting the role of women and strengthening their presence in arenas of dialogue and social awareness. The forum serves as an active cultural platform contributing to the support of women’s roles in the cultural and intellectual landscapes.
It is worth noting that the establishment of the forum serves to revive the historical legacy that Bayt al-Hikma carries today, as women have had a significant impact since its founding during the Abbasid era. The forum’s membership includes a group of Iraqi female elites with distinguished records in administrative and professional work across various disciplines
