Promising Arab Scientific Cooperation Between Bayt al-Hikma and Tunisia
On Monday, September 29, 2025, Dr. Qahtan Naama Hassan Al-Khafaji, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bayt al-Hikma, received His Excellency Mr. Shokri Latif, Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to Baghdad, in his office at Bayt al-Hikma. The official visit aimed to enhance joint academic and research cooperation between Iraq’s Bayt al-Hikma and research centers in Tunisia.
The meeting served as an important milestone to discuss prospects for future partnerships in scientific research and academic exchange, and to outline a shared Arab vision that strengthens research and supports scholars.
Dr. Al-Khafaji affirmed that Bayt al-Hikma attaches great importance to building bridges of cooperation and fostering relationships that advance the course of scientific research. He explained that the institution is committed to activating academic partnerships at both local and international levels.
For his part, the Tunisian Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the invitation extended by Bayt al-Hikma in Iraq and praised the warm reception. He commended the role of this distinguished institution, which reflects the legacy of Iraqi civilization, and stressed the importance of cultural exchange and the role of Arab thought in producing studies and research through such prominent centers that provide data and insights to guide policymaking.
At the conclusion of the visit, both sides agreed on a set of joint scientific and cultural initiatives, most notably exploring the twinning of Iraq’s Bayt al-Hikma with its Tunisian counterpart and convening a founding meeting to develop a cooperation strategy.
The Ambassador was also given a tour of Bayt al-Hikma’s halls and historic corridors, where he viewed the institution’s academic environment and heritage building. He was presented with a selection of Bayt al-Hikma’s publications.
