Respect and Acceptance of Diversity in the Field of Human Rights
Amid the growing challenges facing the world today, the theme of respecting others and accepting differences has emerged as a fundamental human and ethical value that contributes to strengthening social cohesion and achieving peaceful coexistence. From this standpoint, the Legal Affairs Department – Human Rights Division at Bayt al-Hikma organized a workshop titled “Respect and Acceptance of Diversity in the Field of Human Rights” on Sunday, September 28, 2025, with the participation of a group of specialized academics from various state institutions and staff members of Bayt al-Hikma.
The importance of this workshop lies in the necessity of reinforcing the principle of respecting others and accepting differences, which forms a basic foundation for building a cohesive society based on dialogue and for reducing manifestations of intolerance and extremism.
The workshop included two main themes. The first, titled “Freedom of Opinion, Expression, and Belief”, was presented by Mr. Ali Saleh Alawi, a certified trainer in the field of human rights from the High Commission for Human Rights. He discussed the concept and importance of these rights in promoting dialogue and respecting different opinions, emphasizing that accepting opposing views is a key indicator of intellectual maturity, helps build bridges of dialogue, and reduces the intensity of conflicts.
The second theme addressed “Respecting Others and Acceptance of Diversity”, presented by Mr. Ali Hassan Hamza from the High Commission for Human Rights. He explained that accepting others does not necessarily mean agreeing with them, but rather respecting their rights and beliefs and engaging with them in a civilized manner, regardless of differences in opinion or cultural, religious, and social backgrounds. Respecting others, he added, fosters positive relationships built on trust and mutual respect and reduces conflicts resulting from misunderstandings or intellectual intolerance.
