Arabic Western and Eastern Countries*
On Monday, December 15, 2025, Bayt Al-Hikma (House of Wisdom) – Department of Linguistic and Translation Studies, organized its virtual international symposium titled "Contemporary Arabic Linguistic Endeavor Between the Arabic Western and Eastern Countries ."
The event took place at 7:00 PM Baghdad time, through Zoom platform, with the participation of an elite group of professors and researchers from Arab and international universities and research centers.
The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Hanaa Mahmoud Ismail from the College of Arts, Iraqi University, and the rapporteur was Assist.Prof.Dr. Yousef Abdul Qader from the College of Arts, Al-Mustansiriyah University.
The symposium featured the presentation of research papers that addressed current linguistic and methodological issues:
Prof.Dr. Safia Kassas from Algeria commenced with a paper discussing the Computerization of the Arabic Language between the approach of Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Saleh and the developments of Artificial Intelligence, highlighting the possibilities of convergence between the Arabic linguistic heritage and modern technologies.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Abboud Hammoudi from the College of Islamic Sciences, University of Baghdad, discussed the Methodological Gap between the Linguists of the Eastern (Mashreq) and the Western (Maghreb) Arabic countries , pausing at its cognitive causes and the prospects for overcoming it.
Prof. Dr. Asmahan Mizab from Algeria presented a reading of the Maghrebi Linguistic Effort in the thought of Abdul Malik Mortadh, tracing the paths of transition from reception to indigenization (original theoretical grounding).
Prof. Dr. Sabah Ali Al-Sulaiman from Tikrit University addressed the Problematic Nature of the Term 'Text Linguistics' between scholars of the Eastern and the Western , highlighting differences in conceptual employment.
Assistant Prof.Dr. Abdul Zahra Ismail from the College of Arts, Al-Mustansiriyah University, presented an analytical study on Arabic Linguistics Today between the Contexts of the Eastern and the Western through scientific production and the paths of cognitive indigenization.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ajmal from Jawaharlal Nehru University in India presented research on the Early Indian-Arabic Linguistic Interaction and its Legacy.
The symposium concluded with a paper by Assistant Researcher Raw'a Mudhihr Abbas from Bayt Al-Hikma, in which she addressed the Appearances
of Linguistic Duality between the Eastern and the Western through a linguistic reading of the contemporary Arabic linguistic reality.
The symposium was distinguished by rich scientific discussion and clear interaction from the attendees, where questions were raised about the
integration between the Arab linguistic schools, the possibility of employing digital technologies and artificial intelligence in the service of the Arabic language, and enhancing the paths of original theoretical grounding and renewal in contemporary Arabic linguistic studies.
