World Logic Day
Bayt al-Hikma – Department of Philosophical Studies, in cooperation with the Department of Philosophy, College of Arts, Al-Mustansiriyah University, organized a scientific symposium on the occasion of World Logic Day on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, at the Hall of Mirrors in Bayt al-Hikma. The event was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bayt al-Hikma, Dr. Muhannad Abdul Hassan, along with a number of academics and researchers specializing in philosophy and logic.
The symposium coincided with UNESCO’s celebration of World Logic Day, which was first launched in 2019 following a global academic initiative and officially adopted the same year as an annual event aimed at highlighting the importance of logic in promoting rational thinking and supporting scientific research.
The session was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Laith Atheer Yousif (Al-Mustansiriyah University – College of Arts – Department of Philosophy), while Assistant Professor Dr. Mona Faleh Hussein (Al-Mustansiriyah University) served as rapporteur.
The symposium featured distinguished scholarly contributions from a group of researchers who presented several academic papers. These included a paper by Professor Frode Alfson from the University of Oslo, Norway, entitled “Truth Processing”. Professor Dr. Nidal Thakir Athab (Al-Mustansiriyah University – College of Arts – Department of Philosophy) presented a paper titled “Applied Logic and Philosophical Thought.” Professor Dr. Talib Hussein Katafa, a researcher in philosophical studies, delivered a paper entitled “The Paradox of Terminology in Fuzzy Logic and the Problem of Induction.” In addition, Assistant Professor Dr. Salah Abdulameer (Imam Al-Kadhim University) presented a paper titled “Philosophical Logic and the Philosophy of Logic.” The symposium concluded with a joint research paper by Dr. Denis Sarkai and Dr. Jonas Rapp from Germany, entitled “Analysis in Mathematics.”
The symposium concluded with scientific discussions that emphasized the necessity of revitalizing logical and philosophical studies, supporting rigorous academic research, and strengthening scientific cooperation between Iraqi academic institutions and their international counterparts, in a manner that contributes to the development of philosophical research and the consolidation of systematic thinking in society.
